You are required to be able to identify the parts of the liver from a photomicrograph - it's not a common question but the actual images of these things are so different from the diagrams, that I have broken from my philosophy of hand drawing everything to add these images.

I'd made them back and white as this is how they will appear on the exam paper.

Pro Tips for Identifying Photomicrographs of Cells:

  1. Identify the organ and which part of the organ you are looking at (you need to know this for the liver, kidney & pancreas)
  2. Use your knowledge of what should be in those areas e.g. Glomeruli are only found in the cortex etc.
  3. They have NEVER asked students to identify Kupffer cells (FYI: they have larger nuclei)
