ALGEBRAIC TECHNIQUES

  • Quadratics! You think you learned everything at GCSE but at A Level you find that quadratics can be tricky beasts. Also, I strongly recommend you use my method for the Binomial Expansion. You won't find it in any books but it's much simpler I promise, and what's more it also works for the second year Binomial Expansion problems where the powers become negative or fractional.

  • Indices Surds Fractions
  • Factorising
  • Complete the Square
  • Simultaneous Equations
  • Hidden Quadratics
  • Discriminant
  • Factor Theorem
  • Binomial Expansion
  • Using the Binomial Expansion

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The ALGEBRAIC TECHNIQUES REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

FUNCTIONS & GRAPHS

  • You probably don't really love graph sketching and graph transformations but sadly for you, it really is important: not only for the number of marks you get but also because understanding graphs allows you to solve all sorts of problems with functions. Luckily I've made a really simple process called 'the journey of x' to help your sketch be correct every time.

  • Linear Modelling
  • Quadratic Modelling
  • Sketch Polynomials
  • Graph Transformations
  • Transformations of Functions
  • Sketching Cubics & Quartics
  • Sketching Reciprocals
  • Sketching Rationals
  • Solving Inequalities
  • Sketching Inequalities

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The GRAPHS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

GEOMETRY

  • Geometry is hard and its ok to admit that. The main hurdle to get over is the graph sketching. You more or less can't solve lines and circles questions without a sketch. Vectors questions range from ridiculously easy to ridiculously hard. Make sure you can do the easy ones but don't get stressed if you're struggling with the hard ones.

  • Line Equation
  • Line Geometry
  • Circle Geometry
  • Triangles & Vectors
  • Vectors
  • Vectors Shape Problems
  • Vectors Shape Proofs

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The GEOMETRY REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

EXPONENTIALS & LOGS

  • A difficult and important topic I'm afraid. You need to give yourself time getting used to exponentials and logs because your brain doesn't have anywhere to 'put the information' at first, so it'll feel like you're getting nowhere. Don't worry, this is normal. Be patient with yourself, keep practicing and don't be afraid to ask for help.

  • Exponential Modelling
  • Logarithmic Functions
  • Exponential & Log Equations
  • Log Rules
  • Linearising Data

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The EXPONENTIALS & LOGS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

TRIGONOMTRY

  • No more SOHCAHTOA! At A Level, trig is all about solving equations which have infinitely many SOLUTIONS! Hard to understand, but easy to perform the steps to get the answers. My method is different from any you'll find in a book but please try it - it's so much simpler than the 'graph' or 'quadrant' methods. In the second year, trig is the most important topic of all.

  • Understanding Trig
  • Mini Trig Equations

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The TRIGONOMETRY REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

DIFFERENTIATION

  • Differentiation is the method we use to solve probelms about the slope of a curve. We can find out where the curve is going up or down, where it's maximum (or minimum) piints are, we can use it to find the equation of a tangent to a curve and for solving problems about optimisation. It's very useful and it's a very big part of second year maths.

  • Tangents & Normals
  • Stationary Points
  • Optimisation
  • First Principles

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The DIFFERENTIATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

INTEGRATION

  • Integration is the opposite of differentiation. In maths we use it to find areas under graphs. It's quite fun I think, but a small warning: you will forget 'plus c' many, many times!! In the second year, integration is the hardest topic and I advise you to start learning it as early in the year as possible - but in the first year it's not too bad.

  • Integration
  • Areas Under Curves

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The INTEGRATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

PROOF

  • Proving things is what maths after A Level is all about. For now, you'll learn a few simple proofs. To get all the marks, you need to show and explain ALL your working.

  • Counter Example
  • Exhaustion
  • Odd & Even
  • Rational & Irrational

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The PROOF REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

LDS & SAMPLING

  • Please don't worry about the Large Data Set. It would take ages to study it and it's work a maximum of 3 marks, usually less. I'd say ignore it altogether to be honest!

  • Comparing Data Sets
  • Survey vs Census
  • Sampling Techniques

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The LDS & SAMPLING REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

REPRESENTING DATA

  • Data is a big (quite messy) topic with loads of little fiddly things: mean, median, standard deviation, variance, coding data, histograms, linear interpolation and lots of "explain why...." and "give a reason why..." type questions. Yuk! Words!

  • Histograms
  • Quantiles & Interpolation
  • Mean & Variance

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The REPRESENTING DATA REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

CORRELATION & REGRESSION

  • Not a big or important topic, it's mostly about recognising outliers on scatter graphs. The questions are often based on the Large Data Set but you can still answer them even if you know nothing about the LDS! There's more interesting things about correlation in the second year.

  • Regression Lines

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The CORRELATION & REGRESSION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

PROBABILITY

  • Most AS Probability questions are about Venn diagrams. The problems and notation are a bit more complicated than you saw in GCSE but not much, and you'll learn about statistically dependent vs independent events.

  • Venn Diagrams & Set Notation

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The PROBABILITY REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION

  • The most important part of AS Stats, this topic is worth a lot of marks in the exam. It's a way of solving problems where only two things can happen (like tossing a coin, it can only be heads or tails). I admit it does seem complicated at first but it's just a case of sticking things into your calculator really.

  • Binomial Probabilities
  • Binomial Inverse Problems
  • Current Bun Problems

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

HYPOTHESIS TESTING

  • Not an easy concept to get your head around, hypothesis testing will definitely be assessed in the AS exams and there's even more of it in the second year!

  • Hypothesis Testing for Significance (Binomial)
  • Hypothesis Testing (Binomial) - Critical Values

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The BINOMIAL DISTRIBUTION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

CONSTANT ACCELERATION

  • Constant acceleration is the simplest type of motion. You'll learn to use vt graphs and suvat equations which you can then use to solve any problem involving constant acceleration. Warning: mechanics questions almost always need a bit of simultaneous equations to finish them off. It can get messy,

  • st, vt & at Graphs
  • Constant Acceleration Problems
  • Vertical Motion Under Gravity
  • Vectors - Position & Velocity Problems
  • Proof of suvat Equations

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The CONSTANT ACCELERATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

VARIABLE ACCELERATION

  • Things get a bit more complicated if your particle is slowing down or speeding up at different rates. In these 'variable acceleration' problems, we can't use the suvat equations. Instead, we use calculus (differentiation & integration) to find the displacement, velocity and acceleration of the particle at certain times.

  • 1D Variable Acceleration

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The VARIABLE ACCELERATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

FORCE PROBLEMS

  • The techniques involved here are 1: draw a diagram showing all the forces acting on the particle, then 2: Use the formula $F=ma$ to make some equations, and finally 3: simultaneous equations to find the missing informnation. These are quite fun once you realise they're all the exact same problem!

  • Drawing Force Diagrams
  • Forces & Newton's Laws
  • Pulley Problems
  • Car/Trailer & Lift Problems
  • Change in Motion (eg string breaks)
  • Vectors - Force Problems

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The FORCE PROBLEMS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

ALGEBRAIC TECHNIQUES

  • You covered almost all techniques in AS. The only new thing is partial fractions which is pretty easy. Please try the binomial expansion the way I teach it? It's not the same as the book but it's simpler and it makes the AS & A level binomial expansions exactly the same method.

  • Algebraic Fractions
  • Partial Fractions
  • Binomial Expansion
  • Binomial Approximations

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The ALGEBRAIC TECHNIQUES REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

FUNCTIONS

  • Please don't worry about domain & range, it's 1 mark in the exam: not worth stress! Modulus graphs can be confusing so worth slowing down a bit when you reach that topic.

  • Domain & Range
  • Composite Functions
  • Inverse Functions
  • Modulus Graphs
  • Modulus Equations & Inequalities
  • Parametrically Defined Functions
  • Converting Parametric to Cartesian

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The FUNCTIONS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

SECTORS & TRIANGLES

  • Here we learn to measure angles in radians which is super important, and we learn a couple of formulae for sectors problems. 3D vectors? Same as 2D vectors - literally. This doesn't make vectors problems easy but at least there's nothing new to learn.

  • Formulae for Sectors & Triangles

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The SECTORS & TRIANGLES REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

3D VECTORS

  • There's basically nothing new to learn here. Everything you learned about 2D vectors also applies in 3 dimensions! There's no new formulae or techniques here at all, but vectors questions can be hard so probably worth going back to AS Vectors and doing some practice in 2D before moving onto 3D?

  • Vectors in 3 Dimensions

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The 3D VECTORS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

TRIGONOMTRY

  • Important important important! There are a LOT of trig identities to learn & it takes a long time to get confident using them so start this topic early and give it a lot of time (but not as much time as integration!)

  • Reciprocal Trig Functions
  • Pythagorean Identites
  • Double/Half Angle Formulae
  • Addition Formulae
  • Harmonic Form
  • Inverse Trig Functions
  • Small Angle Approximations

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The TRIGONOMETRY REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

DIFFERENTIATION

  • I cannot emphasise enough how important the chain rule is. That is all. Practice the chain rule. Become a master of the chain rule.

  • The Derivatives
  • Concave & Convex Graphs
  • The Chain Rule
  • The Product & Quotient Rules
  • Implicit Differentiation (The Chain Rule)
  • Connected Rates & Parametric Differentiation (The Chain Rule)
  • Differentiating x=f(y) (Implicit Differentiation)
  • First Principles Trig
  • Proof of the Derivatives

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The DIFFERENTIATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

INTEGRATION

  • Integration is the hardest part of the A Level and it's nothing like AS integration. It's worth a lot of marks so ideally, learn it as early as you can and practice it weekly.

  • How to Integrate (G-D-A)
  • Integrate Fractions & Trig
  • Integration by Parts
  • Integration by Substitution & Parametric Integration
  • Form & Solve Differential Equations

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The INTEGRATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

SEQUENCES & SERIES

  • Some of these questions have wayyyyy too many words for my liking, but at the end of the day it always comes down to (1) translate the information into formulae and then (2) solve simultaneous equations.

  • Notation & Language of Series
  • Arithmetic Series & Geometric Series
  • Proof of the Sum Formulae

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The SEQUENCES & SERIES REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

NUMERICAL METHODS

  • This is a funny stand alone topic which is not building on any AS. It's not difficult and also isn't worth too many marks.

  • The Trapezium Rule
  • Change of Sign Argument
  • Cobwebs & Staircases (Iteration)
  • Newton-Raphson
  • Proof of Newton-Raphson & the Trapezium Rule

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The NUMERICAL METHODS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

PROOF

  • There's one extra proof type to learn here. It's called 'proof by contradiction' and I admit it is difficult to understand. Having said that, it doesn't come up every year and it's not worth many marks when it does.

  • Proof by Contradiction

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The PROOF REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

CORRELATION & REGRESSION

  • A small addition to the AS, you learn the PMCC which is a measure of how much the scatter graph looks like a line. You also need to do hypothesis tests for correlation but it's the easiest hypothesis test of the three so that's good.

  • Product Moment Correlation Coefficient
  • Hypothesis Testing for Zero Correlation

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The CORRELATION & REGRESSION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

PROBABILITY

  • Building on the AS, you learn one final new formula here, which is how to find the probability of A 'given' B. This topic isn't worth as many marks as the binomial & normal distributions.

  • Conditional Probability

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The PROBABILITY REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

NORMAL DISTRIBUTION

  • The most important part of stats in terms of getting marks. At first it can seem much harder than it really is and actually, every question has the same method to solve it. There's hypothesis testing in here too so it's best if you're confident on this from AS.

  • Normal - Mean & Variance Known
  • Normal - Mean & Variance Unknown
  • Key Features of a Normal Distribution
  • Using the Normal to Approximate the Binomial
  • Hypothesis Testing for the Mean of a Population

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The NORMAL DISTRIBUTION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

PROJECTILES

  • If you're confident on suvat then there's nothing new to learn here. It seems complicated because there's lots of letters but it's 'just' suvat and simultaneous equations.

  • Projectiles

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The PROJECTILES REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

VARIABLE ACCELERATION

  • There's nothing new to learn here, honestly. Differentiate s to get v, differentiate v to get a. Integrate to go the other way and don't forget +c!

  • 2D Variable Acceleration

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The VARIABLE ACCELERATION REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

FRICTION & RESOLVING FORCES

  • You're going to be using F=ma like in AS but now, some of the forces go at funny angles so you learn to 'resolve' these forces. You'll also learn how to model friction.

  • Resolving Forces
  • Smooth Bead Problems
  • Friction

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The FRICTION & FORCES REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.

MOMENTS

  • This topic is usually taught late in the year and rushed, making it seem a lot trickier than it needs to be. There's a lot of simultaneous equations, but using my 5 step process keeps it all under control.

  • Finding Moments
  • Beam Problems with Parallel Forces
  • Beam Problems with Non Parallel Forces
  • Hinge Problems
  • Ladder Problems (Not For AQA Students)

  • In each LESSON (above) you'll find a tutorial, quiz & key exam question. The MOMENTS REVISION PACK has all the exam questions you'll need to deepen your understanding, get definitions into your long term memory & improve your exam technique.
